In 2019, when I was nearing the end of my PhD, I was wondering what to do with the spare time I was soon going to have and had the thought of starting a talent agency, originally as a complement to the studio. I had a few students who were either ready for representation or had been applying to other agencies with no luck so I organised a meeting with a friend and mentor (who also happened to be my wife's agent) to ask if I could job-shadow/follow them around to see what they do, and, after chatting for a couple of hours, they said "you know the industry, you've got the contacts, just do it."
So I did and Ian Nisbet Talent Management was born.
Starting off unofficially with just a handful of students we set up a CV template, started submitting them, and they started getting called and some even started getting cast in their first shows. Things seemed to be working so I started approaching other people, both in and outside of the studio, and began bringing them on board. People kept getting called and cast to the point that it was worth going public so I registered the business name, built the website, and announced that our books were officially open!
Since then we've had a steady stream of success securing our talent often their first professional gigs with some even being head-hunted by the bigger agencies (which I take as a compliment - must have seen something right!).
We stand apart from other reps as one of the few live-performance-only agencies - a niche we're happy to fill for those not interested in the film and TV sector. We also give our performers agency over their own decisions and careers i.e. we don’t choose which briefs we do or don’t send to our performers - if you fit it, you get it!
We also proudly use only the MEAA's Standard Artist’s Representation Contract so you know there's no hidden surprises or nasties.
Over the years we've forged warm relationships with many casting directors and companies and continue to proudly represent a wide variety of performers from all ages and backgrounds, always doing our best to serve them and their needs.
We may be small but I like to think of us as the 'little agency that could' and appreciate you taking the time and interest to check us out and what we do 🙂
